On October 29th, the TrainZItalia Staff met in Brescia to discuss the future of TrainZItalia.
Re-organisation of user categories.
For a series of reasons, Gold Member subscriptions cannot be purchased any more. The Staff will take charge of the costs associated with the website.
From now on, a user will only be able to gain a Gold Membership by providing active contributions to the development of our website. This contribution can take many forms: asset/route/session creation, betatesting, providing documentation helping the authors of new assets, etc.
Admission to Gold Membership will only take place through invitation by the Staff. No self-nominations will be accepted.
The few remaining “Annual” Gold Members will continue to enjoy their membership until its expiration date. On such date, the Staff will evaluate on a case-by-case basis and through the same criteria set out above, whether to pass them into the “For Life” category or not.
Re-organisation of the download areas.
To make user participation easier, we have unanimously decided that, as regards to the assets created by Staff members:
All assets (except rolling stock) and all routes will become Free;
As regards to rolling stock, authors will decide on a case-by-case basis. All the rolling stock consisting of simple repaints of Free assets will become Free anyway.
As regards to the assets not created by Staff members, we cannot – of course – decide for them and we well comply with their decisions, so we have already contacted them.
Note: the release of such assets as Freeware does not authorise uploading them on other websites (including the DLS) without the author permission.
The decision mentioned under the previous point greatly simplifies the restoration process, since no lengthy and difficult investigations to assess the original state of the assets are required.
Once the restoration of all the previously available downloads is over, we will cease any support for TS2010. Keeping the assets compatible with so many game versions is becoming increasingly difficult and prevents us from exploiting some features that are only present in the newest versions. The compatibility range of any new releases will be decided by their authors.
