let me see if I have this right, the route is  non-interactive. no frieght loading, no passinger loading, no coaling no water etc.  it is for scienic play only. is this correct

- Truckee Local by UP844 - start in Sparks Yard, proceed to Lawton and switch the plastics plant there, then to Truckee and return to Sparks. This is not very difficult, but having the game displaying the proper instructions is proving as a quite complex task."

Hello Athlon700,

we placed some interactive industries in the Sherman Hill route (MINs at Granite Quarry and at the Monolith Cement Quarry, plus a default refinery at Cheyenne and some additional MINs in Laramie). With the exception of the MIN at Granite Quarry (which was used in the "Ballast Turn" session) they proved to be more a nuisance than an advantage. As a consequence, there are no interactive industries on the Donner Pass route.

For example, we have an almost complete switching session at the Cheyenne refinery and we had to avoid using the loading tracks as the train invariably stops on them, even if the cars are not industry-enabled.

Another feature I don't like is that "normal" industries instantly and simultaneously load several cars at a time: LARS-type industries are much better from this point of view, but they restrict the type of cars you can use (this is the main reason we replaced the LARS-Aggregate industry at Granite with a MIN, so as to be able to use the excellent UP ballast hoppers by Slave-driver, which use a dedicated load).

As for passengers, having them always standing on the platforms waiting for a train, looks quite silly to me, considering that every day the route only sees 2 California Zephyrs and 2 Capitol Corridor (from Roseville to Auburn) passenger trains.

I think the route (especially in the Sparks Industrial area and along the Panther Valley branch) could make good use of CMTM system (which does not require interactive industries), to provide challenging operations. Unfortunately so far I have been unable to understand the intricacies of this fine system, and all the demo-routes I found were flawed.

If I may just update the information provided: -

Both are released in TZIT freeware

 

- Emigrant Gap Emergency by DennR - Start from Sparks Yard  with a Westbound Manifest but a Locomotive Brake Failure forces a halt at Emigrant Gap

 

Plus it's companion -

 

- Recovery at Emigrant Gap by DennR - Couple to a consist which has suffered brake failure before descending to Roseville

 

Both of these sessions are in BETA test and should be available soon, the information on the other sessions I believe is still accurate.

ahhh much better. its just too bad donner was written for trainz instead of trains.  will donner work on trainz 2015?

Are you talking about Railworks train simulator? Because if you are, there is one. Not created by anyone here, mind you, but the add on does exist. Available on Steam as DLC for the game (and works w/2015 version) I have it as well as the one from here. You just cant get too much Donner Pass! (not to mention I am recreating it in HO scale in my basement no less.  :-) )

We already made significant efforts aimed at having Donner Pass working in T:ANE, updating as much content as possible to TS12 61388 standards (as several Auran representatives stated "If it works in TS12, it will work in T:ANE too"). The route has already been imported in T:ANE CE with no overwhelming issues showing: besides the known current issues with T:ANE CE (especially ambient lighting), there are some missing assets that are built-in in TS12 but not available on the DLS.

Any work aimed at having the Donner Pass fully working in T:ANE, however, will be delayed until a fully developed version is available. We DO NOT aim at making such a complex route compatible with a unfinished version, as any efforts could become pointless because of unexpected changes in the final version.

(not to mention I am recreating it in HO scale in my basement no less.  :-) )

Ok UP844.

 

Not to hijack the thread, but here is a picture of a test printout of my track plan. I am modeling Donner Pass from Colfax to Truckee, CA. Circa 1980's  (using 3rd PlanIt model railroad design software) for the first section of the proposed layout. Note this is in no way final. You can see the east end of Colfax (barely) in the upper right. There is a foam mockup of one of the Bridges at Long Ravine that I-80 passes below. Barely visible behind the closest black support pole you can see the roof of the Colfax Station that I also did a mockup of. At the very top of the picture you can see the benchwork of my test layout that I built to try out various construction and wiring techniques. And pardon the mess. :P

ahhh yes I remember it well. I constructed a 500 ft layout in a 3 car garage back in the 80's. all track was hand layed the switches were all hand made bridges were cut from plastic I beams. thousands of hours were put into it.  It never seemed to get finished, every time you would finish one project you would sit back and say "humm what if" and off you would go. but then father time starts catching up and crawling around benieth the layout became impossible, Any way the empty nest made us come to the realization that a 5 bedroom house with 2 people was not working so the house went on the market and the layout was dissassembled.  now this program takes up much less room and being able to get in and drive the train is great.  thanks for letting me babble

Well in my session, the horse and rider are just outside the stables!

 

I created a session using a drivable! horse (Horse and Rider 1A - trotting,<kuid:63290:9001>) available on the DLS.  The stables are betweeen Lake Angela and Lake Mary and there is a figure of 8 route around both lakes.  To find the stables search for 'Lake Angela' and then follow the 'tracks' down the hill, the stables are just before a road.

 

It is fun driving the horse along the tracks; the views up on the highest point show off the superb artistic skills of the developers of this route.

ieri ho acquistato la Donner Winter Edition; caricati sia il cdp della tratta che quello contenente gli oggetti invernali (credo), mi ritrovo con 287 Mk: per caso ho dimenticato di scaricare qualche altro cdp? :bho: :pensieroso:
